NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday described Operation Sindoor as a “golden chapter” in humanity’s fight against terrorism, highlighting the pivotal role of public sector undertakings (PSUs) in developing the indigenous Akashteer Air Defence Control and Reporting System, which proved crucial during the India-Pakistan military conflict.
Speaking at the SCOPE Eminence Awards in New Delhi, the President underlined the importance of PSUs in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. She noted that PSUs have performed strongly on key financial parameters, with significant growth in revenue and profitability. Nearly three-fourths of them are profit-making, and their net profits have risen substantially over the past decade, she added.
Calling PSUs the “catalysts of growth and pillars of prosperity,” Murmu said they have set benchmarks in governance and transparency while advancing the goal of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) through initiatives like Make in India.
Making a special reference to the defence sector, she said:
“Operation Sindoor is a golden chapter in humanity’s victory against terrorism. It completely destroyed terrorist camps and foiled attempts to attack India. The Akashteer system, developed indigenously with the contribution of PSUs, demonstrated flawless capability. This is a matter of great pride.”
Murmu emphasized that the contributions of PSUs in innovation and technology have strengthened national security and advanced self-reliance. Their role spans across key sectors including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, processing, and services, she noted.
She further stressed that women-led development remains a national priority, while acknowledging the multiple challenges women leaders continue to overcome.
