New Delhi, Dec 03: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday said India’s relevance to the global talent and skill market is set to grow rapidly, driven by its demographic strength and expanding mobility frameworks. He was speaking at the India’s World Annual Conclave 2025.

Jaishankar noted that India represents one-sixth of the world’s population and nearly one-fourth of the global working-age demographic, making it a vital contributor to the international workforce. “Our relevance to the global talent skill market is only going to grow,” he remarked.

Highlighting progress made in the past decade, the Minister pointed to the expansion of passport services, welfare funds for Indians abroad, and stronger legal pathways for workforce mobility. He said legal and formal mobility brings wide benefits, while illegal movement fuels crime and trafficking networks.

Jaishankar stressed that globalisation discussions often centre on trade, but the movement of workers and the conditions around it are equally significant. He urged greater focus on skills development and legal migration frameworks to meet rising global demand.

Officials said the remarks underline India’s growing role in shaping global labour markets, with its young workforce increasingly stepping up to meet international needs.
