Colombo, November 30: Sri Lanka is reeling under the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, with the Disaster Management Centre confirming 153 deaths and 191 people still missing. Heavy rainfall, rising floodwaters, and landslides have affected more than 774,000 people across 25 districts.
Authorities reported that over 15,000 homes have been destroyed, while nearly 101,000 people from 27,494 families are currently sheltering in 798 evacuation centres nationwide. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared a state of emergency and appealed for urgent international assistance.
Rescue operations remain challenging due to damaged roads, communication breakdowns, and ongoing landslides. India has extended support through Operation Sagar Bandhu, delivering aid and assisting in rescue efforts.
The government emphasized that relief and rehabilitation measures are being intensified, with thousands of personnel deployed to ensure safety and restore essential services in the affected regions.
