Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh, today announced that more than 25 lakh people have adopted face authentication technology to generate their Digital Life Certificates. He made the remarks while launching the 4th Nationwide Digital Life Certificate Campaign in New Delhi.
Dr Singh described the campaign as a significant step toward the digital empowerment of pensioners, in line with the vision of Digital India.
Highlighting the technological shift, he noted that while biometric methods were previously used to generate life certificates, they often proved unreliable for pensioners aged 75 years and above. He added that around 2,200 pensioners aged over 100 years are still drawing their pensions, and among the 25 lakh retirees using face authentication, over 30,000 are above 90 years of age — a testament, he said, to the growing acceptance of modern technology among senior citizens.
Dr Singh emphasized that the adoption of face authentication is not only about simplifying pension delivery but also signifies a transformative change in social and economic behaviour, reflecting greater trust in digital tools.
He further shared that the initiative has attracted international attention, with delegations from countries such as Mongolia and Maldives visiting India to study citizen-centric governance models like the Digital Life Certificate system and CPGRAMS.
The minister also informed that the campaign will continue until the end of this month, and on the occasion, he launched a booklet and a short film highlighting the campaign’s objectives and progress.
