KARACHI: Pakistan left-arm pacer Usman Shinwari on Tuesday announced his retirement from international cricket, six years after his last appearance for the national team.

The 31-year-old, who featured in 34 matches across formats between 2013 and 2019, said he will continue playing “league cricket.” Shinwari’s international career includes one Test, 17 ODIs, and 16 T20Is.

“I have decided to retire from international cricket. It has been an honor to represent Pakistan, but now it’s time to make way for the next generation,” he wrote on Instagram. “I will continue playing league cricket to stay connected with the game and my fans, whose love and support have meant everything to me.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed his retirement with a post reading: “Thank you, Usman Shinwari.”

Shinwari made his international debut in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Dubai in December 2013, followed by his ODI debut against the same team in Sharjah in October 2017. His only Test came in December 2019, also against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, where he took a wicket. That match marked his final appearance for Pakistan.

Across formats, Shinwari claimed 34 ODI wickets and 13 in T20Is. His career was frequently hampered by recurring back injuries.

Most recently, he played for Quetta Region in Pakistan’s National T20 Cup in March this year but went wicketless in four games.
