DUBAI: Pakistan has lodged a protest with the Asian Cricket Council after Indian players refused to shake hands following their Asia Cup clash here.

In a statement late Sunday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) described India’s actions as “unsporting” after the Suryakumar Yadav-led side secured a seven-wicket victory.

“Team manager Naveed Cheema lodged a formal protest against the Indian players’ behavior, which was deemed unsporting and contrary to the spirit of the game. In protest, our captain did not attend the post-match ceremony,” the PCB said.

Suryakumar Yadav explained that the Indian team’s decision was intended to show solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April.

This was the first encounter between the arch-rivals on a cricket field since the tragic attack in Kashmir and India’s subsequent ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terror infrastructure across the border in May.

On the field, India dominated Pakistan comprehensively, outperforming them in all departments of the game.
