Jammu: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday said it has arrested a Pakistani intruder along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector and will lodge a protest with Pakistan over the incident.
The arrest took place near the Octroi outpost. The intruder, identified as Siraj Khan from village 27-Chak in Bhalwal tehsil of Punjab province, was spotted crossing into Indian territory and aggressively approaching the border fence in Suchetgarh tehsil around 9:10 pm on Sunday, the BSF said in a statement.
Despite repeated warnings from alert troops, Khan ignored instructions, forcing the BSF to fire before taking him into custody. Two Pakistani currency notes—one of Rs 20 and another of Rs 10—were recovered from his possession. He has since been handed over to the police.
The BSF confirmed that a formal protest is being lodged with Pakistani authorities. It added that security has been further tightened along the Jammu frontier after recent flash floods damaged border fencing and posts at several locations.
