Srinagar: PDP leader Waheed Para on Sunday welcomed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s decision to rehabilitate victims of terrorism but urged that the policy be extended to all victims of violence, including those harmed by state actions.
“LG Manoj Sinha’s move to support terror victims is a humane step towards healing families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. After years of a hardline approach, the administration has finally acknowledged that governance and force alone cannot win hearts — compassion is equally vital to bring Kashmir and Kashmiris closer to the nation,” Para wrote on X.
He stressed that true statesmanship lies in recognising all victims of violence — whether targeted by militants, non-state actors, or state forces. “Families broken by mistakes of the forces remain unseen and unhealed. Not every person killed in such incidents was anti-national. If rehabilitation is selective, where should these victims go? Inclusive rehabilitation is the only path to genuine integration,” he said.
Para was responding to Sinha’s recent policy granting government jobs to the next of kin of victims of terrorist violence. The Pulwama MLA added that a uniform rehabilitation programme would offer much-needed closure to all deserving families.
