Jammu: A junior pharmacist who was brutally assaulted two days ago succumbed to his injuries at a hospital on Friday.
Officials said the victim, identified as Shabir Ahmad Choudhary of Dharna Mendhar and serving in the Health Department, was attacked by unidentified persons on November 12 while he was on his way to the Sub Centre Chattri.
He was initially taken to the sub-district hospital in Mendhar and later shifted to GMC Rajouri, from where he was referred to GMC Jammu for advanced treatment.
BMO Mendhar, Dr. Ashfaq Choudhary, said Shabir had sustained multiple fractures along with serious lung and liver injuries, and he passed away today.
Meanwhile, police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation. A police official said several leads have been developed and a few suspects have already been detained.
