PM appoints 2 new members to NDMA, renominates 3 existing members

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nominated two new members to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and extended the tenure of three existing members for another three years.

According to a notification issued by the Union Home Ministry on Friday, Rajendra Singh, Krishna Swaroop Vatsa, and Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain have been renominated, while scientist Dinesh Kumar Aswal and disaster recovery specialist Rita Missal have been inducted as new members.

The appointments have been made under clause (b) of Sub-section (2) of Section 3 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Each member will serve for three years from the date of assuming office, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Prime Minister serves as the chairperson of the NDMA, which is the country’s apex body for disaster management. Established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the NDMA is tasked with formulating policies, plans, and guidelines for effective disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and response.
