NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for his intellectual depth, empathetic leadership and lifelong dedication to social transformation, calling his tenure since 2009 the most transformative phase in the Sangh’s century-long journey.

In an article published on Bhagwat’s 75th birthday, Modi described him as a living embodiment of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, who has consistently worked to strengthen harmony, fraternity and trust in society.

The Prime Minister noted the coincidence that the RSS’s centenary this year falls on the same day as the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. He said the organisation is fortunate to have a wise and hardworking leader in Bhagwat.

Praising his humility and listening skills, Modi said these qualities lend sensitivity and dignity to Bhagwat’s leadership. He highlighted that being Sarsanghchalak is more than an organisational role—it demands sacrifice, clarity of purpose and an unwavering commitment to the nation.

“Mohan ji has not only upheld the gravity of this responsibility but enriched it with his intellectual depth and empathetic leadership, guided always by the principle of Nation First,” Modi said. He added that continuity and adaptation have been the hallmarks of Bhagwat’s working style, enabling him to navigate challenges without compromising on ideology.

Modi credited Bhagwat with connecting the youth to the Sangh, engaging in public discourse, and supporting national initiatives like Swachh Bharat and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. He also recalled Bhagwat’s Panch Parivartan—social harmony, family values, environmental awareness, national selfhood and civic duties—as an inspiration for all citizens.

He described Bhagwat as a strong proponent of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and a firm believer in India’s diversity. Despite his demanding role, Bhagwat has continued to pursue his love for music, reading and cultural pursuits, which often reflect in his speeches.

Modi recalled his personal association with the Bhagwat family, especially Mohanrao’s father, Madhukarrao Bhagwat, whose passion for nation-building shaped his son’s journey. He said Mohan Bhagwat’s formative years during the Emergency and his work in rural Maharashtra deepened his understanding of grassroots challenges.

Highlighting major reforms under his leadership—from uniform changes to modifications in training programmes—Modi said Bhagwat has steered the RSS through significant transformations while staying true to its core values.

“The dedication with which Bhagwat ji has nurtured and advanced these values is truly inspirational,” the Prime Minister said.
