NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s positive remarks on the trade talks between India and the United States, expressing optimism that the ongoing negotiations will help unlock the full potential of the bilateral partnership.

“India and the US are close friends and natural partners,” Modi said on X, noting that both nations are working to conclude the trade discussions at the earliest. He added, “I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people.”

Modi’s remarks came shortly after Trump expressed confidence that the two countries would face “no difficulty” in reaching a successful trade agreement, and said he looked forward to speaking with his “very good friend” Modi in the coming weeks.

Relations between India and the US, which had recently been strained due to Trump’s decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, have shown signs of improvement. This marks the second recent instance where Trump has praised the US-India partnership and Modi, prompting a positive response from the Indian Prime Minister.
