New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Dhanteras.

“Heartfelt Dhanteras greetings to all my family members across the country. On this sacred occasion, I pray for everyone’s happiness, prosperity, and good health. May Lord Dhanvantari shower his abundant blessings on all,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed his greetings, wishing people happiness, prosperity, and good health. He said the festival represents both Dharma and Artha in India’s eternal Hindu tradition and marks the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari. The CM also expressed hope for Uttar Pradesh’s continued economic growth.

In a post shared by the UP Chief Minister’s Office, it stated, “UPCM @myogiadityanath has extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of the state on Dhanteras, wishing them happiness and prosperity. The Chief Minister said that Dhanteras, in the Purushartha Chatushtaya of India’s eternal Hindu religion, symbolizes not only Dharma but also Artha. Dhanteras is also the birth anniversary of Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of health.”

“Happiness and prosperity can only be achieved through good health. May Lord Dhanvantari bring joy and prosperity to every household, and may Uttar Pradesh emerge as a leading economic state,” the post added.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also extended his Dhanteras greetings, urging citizens to promote prosperity, harmony, and environmental protection.

In a post on X, Birla wrote, “Heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. With the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, may every home be filled with prosperity, wealth, and light, and with the grace of Lord Dhanvantari, may everyone enjoy good health and longevity. Let us also strive to make our nation eternally glorious, protect the environment, and uphold social harmony.”

Dhanteras marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival and is considered an auspicious day for purchasing new items, especially gold, silver, and utensils.

The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha (Siddhi Vinayak), Goddess Lakshmi — the deity of wealth — and Lord Kuber, the god of prosperity. Lord Dhanvantari, revered as the god of Ayurveda, is also worshipped for good health and healing.

Dhanteras is observed on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (the dark fortnight) in the month of Aaswayuja according to the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar, marking the official start of Diwali celebrations.
