New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings on Vijayadashami, describing the festival as a celebration of the triumph of truth and virtue over evil and falsehood.

In a message on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Vijayadashami is a symbol of the victory of good and truth over evil and untruth. May this sacred occasion inspire everyone to move forward with courage, wisdom, and devotion. My warm greetings of Vijayadashami to my family members across the country.”

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of India’s most significant festivals, observed on October 2 this year. The festival commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana and signifies the eternal triumph of righteousness over arrogance and evil. Ravana effigy-burning, along with those of Meghnad and Kumbhkaran, remains a central tradition across many regions of the country.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also conveyed his wishes on the occasion. In his message, he said Vijayadashami represents the victory of righteousness over unrighteousness, urging people to shed inner evils, live without ego, and strengthen social harmony.

He added that the festival reminds us that truth always prevails and called upon people to follow Lord Ram’s teachings, making life meaningful by embracing virtue. The Chief Minister prayed for peace, prosperity, and happiness in every home on this auspicious occasion.
