New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the two-year-old Israel-Gaza conflict.

PM Modi described Trump’s initiative as a pathway to “long-term and sustainable peace” for both the Palestinian and Israeli people.

Sharing a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as for the wider West Asian region. We hope all concerned will come together to support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”

The remarks came after the White House on Monday (local time) released the peace plan following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Several countries, including Canada, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, also welcomed Trump’s initiative.

According to the plan, Gaza would become a deradicalized, terror-free zone that poses no threat to neighboring regions and will be redeveloped for the benefit of its residents, who have endured years of hardship.

If both parties accept the proposal, the conflict would immediately cease. Israeli forces would withdraw to the agreed lines in preparation for the release of hostages. During this period, all military operations, including aerial and artillery strikes, would be suspended, and battle lines would remain frozen until conditions for a full staged withdrawal are met.

Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting the agreement, all hostages, alive or deceased, would be returned. Subsequently, Israel would release 250 life-sentence prisoners and 1,700 Gazans detained since October 7, 2023, including all women and children. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are returned, Israel would release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.

The plan also states that Hamas members who commit to peaceful coexistence and decommissioning their weapons would be granted amnesty, while those wishing to leave Gaza would be allowed safe passage to other countries.

Upon agreement, humanitarian aid would immediately flow into Gaza, matching the quantities outlined in the January 19, 2025 agreement. This includes rehabilitation of infrastructure such as water, electricity, and sewage systems, repair of hospitals and bakeries, and provision of equipment to clear rubble and reopen roads.

Aid distribution would proceed without interference from either party, coordinated through the United Nations, its agencies, the Red Crescent, and other neutral international institutions. The Rafah crossing would operate in both directions under the same mechanism established in the January 19, 2025, agreement.
