Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at the Eastern Command headquarters of the Indian Army at Vijay Durg, formerly known as Fort William, in Kolkata. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the significant meeting, the first such conference following Operation Sindoor.

A defence official explained that Operation Sindoor was designed as a precise, targeted campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure along the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan, reflecting a coordinated tri-service response marked by professionalism and purpose.

The conference saw the participation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and all three chiefs of the Indian armed forces.

Held biennially, the CCC serves as the premier forum for strategic discussions, bringing together the nation’s top civil and military leadership to deliberate on operational, institutional, and strategic priorities, with interactive sessions involving officers across ranks.

The 16th edition of the conference will focus on reforms, transformation, and operational readiness under the theme “Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future.” According to a defence official, “The conference underscores the armed forces’ commitment to institutional reforms, deeper integration, technological modernization, and sustaining high multi-domain operational readiness.”

This marks Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to Bengal in the past five months and his second in just one month. He arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening from Assam and is scheduled to depart for Purnea in Bihar on Monday afternoon, after spending the night at Raj Bhavan. He reached Vijay Durg at around 9:30 am.
