NEW DELHI: India has been a “steadfast and reliable partner” in Mongolia’s development journey, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday after holding extensive talks with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa.

President Ukhnaa arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a four-day visit, his first to India as head of state.

Following their discussions, Modi announced that India would offer free e-visas to Mongolian citizens. “The relationship between India and Mongolia goes beyond diplomacy — it is rooted in spiritual ties,” he said, highlighting the shared Buddhist heritage that has connected the two nations for centuries.

“The oil refinery project, being constructed with India’s USD 1.7 billion Line of Credit, will significantly strengthen Mongolia’s energy security,” the Prime Minister noted.

Diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia were established in 1955, and their partnership today spans multiple sectors including defence and security, energy, mining, information technology, education, healthcare, and cultural exchange.
