Jammu: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the flood-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir during the upcoming Navratras, starting September 22, to assess the damage caused by the recent unprecedented rainfall across both the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Sources close to the development said that during his visit, PM Modi is likely to announce a significant relief package for the affected population of the Union Territory.
BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul confirmed the visit, saying, “The Prime Minister will visit J&K during Navratras. The exact dates are being finalised. He will tour the flood-hit areas in both Jammu and Kashmir.”
The visit is expected to be a one-day trip, during which the Prime Minister will review the destruction caused by cloudbursts, landslides, and floods triggered by heavy rainfall. He is also likely to meet residents impacted by these natural disasters.
A high-level central government team will accompany him to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage, particularly in the worst-affected areas of the Jammu region. An aerial survey of the flood-hit regions is also planned as part of the visit.
Based on the findings of this assessment, the Government of India is expected to announce a substantial relief package for the Union Territory.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had visited Jammu to review the flood situation, and a central team has already completed a preliminary assessment of the damage caused by the relentless rains across J&K.
