New Delhi, Dec 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday presented a Russian‑language edition of the Bhagavad Gita to Russian President Vladimir Putin upon his arrival in Delhi, officials said.
The gesture was described as a symbolic tribute to India’s cultural heritage and an affirmation of the shared values of spirituality and philosophy between the two nations. The Gita, regarded as one of India’s most revered texts, has been translated into Russian and widely read in academic and cultural circles.
Officials said the presentation took place shortly after President Putin landed in Delhi for bilateral engagements. The Prime Minister highlighted the Gita’s universal message of duty, harmony, and resilience, noting its relevance across cultures and societies.
Diplomatic observers said the exchange underscored the personal rapport between the two leaders and reflected India’s emphasis on cultural diplomacy alongside strategic dialogue. The gift was seen as a gesture of goodwill marking the start of Putin’s visit.
