New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the situation following a powerful blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed at least eight lives and left 24 others injured, government sources said.

Officials said a high-intensity explosion ripped through a car near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, triggering a fire that engulfed several vehicles.

Sources added that PM Modi spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation and sought an update on the ongoing response efforts.

The blast occurred during peak evening hours in the bustling area, sending panic among residents and tourists. The injured were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for treatment.

Videos shared by the Chandni Chowk Traders’ Association captured the devastation — with vehicles ablaze and body parts scattered near the site.

Authorities have sounded a high alert across the capital. Ten fire tenders were deployed to douse the flames, and the fire was brought under control by 7:29 p.m., according to the Delhi Fire Services.

“Six cars, two e-rickshaws, and one autorickshaw were completely gutted in the fire,” a fire department official said.

Meanwhile, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reached the spot to assist with the probe.
