New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, observed annually on August 14, serves as a reminder of the nation’s enduring responsibility to uphold the bonds of harmony that unite the country.
He noted that the day commemorates the immense suffering endured by millions during that “tragic chapter” of history, when countless people were forced to leave their homes amid widespread upheaval.
Lakhs lost their lives in the communal violence that followed.
Posting on X, the Prime Minister said, “It is also a day to honour their courage—the strength to face unimaginable loss and yet find the resilience to start anew. Many went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones.”
