Srinagar: In a major crackdown on the banned outfit Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday carried out raids at more than 200 locations, officials said.
According to a police spokesperson, the searches were conducted at the houses and premises of JeI members and their associates as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror support network and its ecosystem at the grassroots level.
Over the past four days, security forces have conducted more than 400 Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) across various areas of the district, including premises of overground workers (OGWs), JKNOPs, and locations linked to past encounters and hideouts of active or slain terrorists.
Around 500 individuals associated with JKNOPs and other banned groups have been questioned during these operations. Many were bound down under preventive laws and shifted to District Jail Mattan in Anantnag.
During the raids, police seized incriminating material and digital devices, while several JeI members were interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation to identify and dismantle terror-linked networks.
