Srinagar: Tense scenes erupted at the Circuit House on Thursday after police stopped former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah from meeting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
Authorities had locked the gates of the facility as Singh planned to stage a protest against the arrest of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik from Doda under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Abdullah, a three-time chief minister and National Conference president, expressed his displeasure at being denied entry.
“This is the reality here… an elected government exists, but the LG behaves as if it’s his own. The country must know about this situation,” he said.
He stressed that Singh’s visit was peaceful. “He has not come to throw stones or fire guns. He only wants to talk within the framework of the Constitution. He is my colleague from Parliament, yet you don’t even allow us to exchange greetings. This isn’t your fault, it’s the LG’s,” Abdullah added.
On the other side of the gate, Singh climbed up and confronted the police, questioning their move.
“He is a former MP, thrice chief minister, and I am also an MP. What is the crime in meeting? Why are we being stopped?” he asked.
