Bandipora: A 32-year-old police constable from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district died on Friday after his service rifle accidentally discharged inside the Police Lines Bandipora.
Officials identified the deceased as Arfeen Lone, son of Darwesh Lone, a resident of Malangam Tulail in Bandipora district.
“The incident took place when the on-duty policeman’s service rifle went off accidentally, inflicting critical injuries,” an official said. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the mishap.
