Poonch witnesses vibrant celebrations of Janmashtami with deep religious devotion

POONCH: Krishna Janmashtami, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, was observed with great devotion in Poonch today.

The festivities were attended by Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Shafket Hussain Bhat, along with other senior district officials. Addressing the gathering at Geeta Bhavan, the Deputy Commissioner extended his greetings to the people of Poonch, lauding the spirit of harmony and brotherhood among devotees and highlighting the importance of unity during culturally significant events.

Prominent citizens and religious leaders, along with SSP Shafket Hussain Bhat, also addressed the gathering, appreciating the peaceful and joyous atmosphere of the celebrations.

A grand Shobha Yatra commenced from Shree Geeta Bhavan, featuring tableaux and traditional performances that reflected the region’s cultural heritage and devotion to Lord Krishna. The Deputy Commissioner, SSP, and other officials participated in the procession, showing solidarity with the community.

The day’s events began with a sacred pooja, followed by an Akhand Kirtan, filling the temple premises with devotional hymns. The Shobha Yatra proceeded through the main streets of Poonch city, attracting large crowds. Local residents enthusiastically lined the route, offering refreshments to participants.

Thousands of devotees from across the district and neighbouring areas took part in the celebrations, making the occasion a spiritually significant and joyous event for the community.
