The death toll from the powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to over 800, with around 2,000 people reported injured. Officials warn the numbers may climb further as many remain trapped under debris. The 6.0-magnitude quake struck late Sunday at a shallow depth of just 8 km, intensifying its impact. Nangarhar and Kunar provinces have been the worst affected, though tremors were also felt in nearby provinces, Kabul, and even Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. Rescue efforts are hampered by the remoteness of several areas, with helicopters deployed to reach inaccessible regions.
