New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to Indians at home and abroad on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, calling it a celebration of the unbreakable bond of love and trust between siblings.
In a post on X, she described the festival as a symbol of harmony and cooperation, and an opportunity to uphold India’s rich cultural heritage and moral values. “This auspicious festival gives the message of respect and protection for mothers, sisters, and daughters,” she wrote, urging citizens to pledge towards building a prosperous India where every woman feels safe and empowered.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed best wishes, highlighting the festival’s role in strengthening sibling bonds. “Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” he posted on X.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended greetings, calling it a celebration of love, trust, and commitment to protection between brothers and sisters. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that beyond the rakhi thread, the festival represents a pledge to honour, protect, and ensure the well-being of sisters. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also shared warm wishes.
Raksha Bandhan, celebrated this year on August 9, is a centuries-old Hindu tradition where sisters tie rakhi on their brothers’ wrists in exchange for a promise of protection. The festival, deeply rooted in Indian culture and mentioned in ancient Hindu texts, continues to be observed with devotion across the country.
