New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday inaugurated the summer annuals of Amrit Udyan, which will open to the public from August 16. This year, visitors can enjoy a new feature—a tranquil Babbling Brook—adding to the garden’s serene charm.

The Babbling Brook offers a peaceful retreat, where flowing water and lush greenery create a calming ambiance. “President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Amrit Udyan Summer Annuals Edition 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The garden will be open to visitors from August 16 to September 14, 2025, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM,” her office shared on X, along with photos from the event.

First opened to the public in 2023 alongside the long-standing winter annuals, Amrit Udyan is now disabled-friendly, featuring ramps, specially designed sensory plant displays, and Braille information for visually impaired visitors.

This year’s garden layout includes a meandering stream with cascades, sculptural water spouts, stepping stones, a raised reflecting pool, a tranquil banyan grove with reflexology paths, ‘panchtatva’ trails, and a forest-inspired ambience. The plumeria garden features grass mounds and curated plantings that offer immersive sensory experiences.

The garden trail encompasses Bal Vatika, Herbal Garden, Bonsai Garden, Central Lawn, Long Garden, and Circular Garden. Entry is free, and visitors can book slots online at rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in. Walk-in visitors can register at self-service kiosks outside Entry Gate No. 35 near North Avenue Road. The gardens are open 10 AM to 6 PM, with the last entry at 5:15 PM, and closed on Mondays for maintenance.

The President’s Estate spans 154 hectares (380 acres), including 139 hectares of trees, lawns, and open spaces, and 15 hectares of buildings and roads. Officials describe Amrit Udyan as the “soul” of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, complementing the architectural grandeur of the residence.

The garden features over 5,000 trees of 160 species, along with seasonal flowers, water canals, terraces, fountains, and ponds that enhance its beauty. This year, visitors can see 42 varieties of summer annual flowers, as well as a floral clock near the Pilkhan tree, where flowers are planted in a circular design surrounded by small edging plants and colored pebbles.

Special access will be granted to athletes on National Sports Day (August 29) and teachers on Teachers’ Day (September 5), to mark national occasions and honor community contributions.
