President Murmu pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday paid rich tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary, recalling his monumental contribution to the unification of India.

The President offered floral tributes at Sardar Patel Chowk in New Delhi and later at Gantantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In a post on X, President Murmu said, “On the birth anniversary of the ‘Iron Man of India,’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all my fellow citizens. Sardar Patel was a great patriot, visionary, and nation-builder who achieved the historic task of uniting the country with his steadfast resolve, courage, and leadership.”

She added, “His life and dedication to national service continue to inspire every Indian. On ‘National Unity Day,’ let us all pledge to build a strong, harmonious, and progressive India.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. The Prime Minister offered homage with folded hands and took part in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade, led by women personnel under the command of IPS officer Simran Bhardwaj of the Gujarat cadre.

Thousands joined PM Modi in taking the national unity pledge on the occasion of Patel’s 150th birth anniversary.

Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel—India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister—is remembered as the “Iron Man of India.” He played a crucial role in integrating more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union, laying the foundation for a strong and united nation after Independence.
