NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday honored 45 teachers from across India with the National Teacher Awards, recognizing their outstanding contributions to teaching and learning.
The awardees were celebrated at the annual ceremony for their dedication, innovative teaching methods, and efforts to enhance learning outcomes, even in challenging environments. From pioneering pedagogy to inspiring first-generation learners, these educators have played a crucial role in shaping young minds nationwide.
Among the recipients is M. Devananda Kumar, Faculty of Telugu at Dr. Lakireddy Hanimireddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram, Andhra Pradesh, recognized for his creative teaching approaches. His citation highlighted his work in creating thallapatra granthas (palm-leaf manuscripts), producing educational videos for LMS platforms, and earning prestigious accolades for his contributions to education.
Proshanto Kr. Saha, Faculty of Psychology at Rajiv Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Pradesh, was also honored for his expertise in forensic psychology and neuropsychology, reflecting over 14 years of academic service. His achievements include establishing a Neuropsychology Lab, developing intervention training modules, leading significant research projects, and providing psychological support to child abuse victims, demonstrating a strong commitment to both academic excellence and social impact.
Ahead of the ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with the award-winning teachers. In a light-hearted remark, he said that while teachers typically assign homework to students, he wanted to assign one to them: to lead campaigns promoting swadeshi products and reinforce the “Make in India” and “Vocal for Local” initiatives.
