SRINAGAR: The Committee on Privileges of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a meeting at the Assembly Complex in Srinagar to discuss issues concerning the constitutional privileges and entitlements of legislators.
Chaired by Committee Chairman Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, the meeting was attended by members Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Salman Sagar, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Javaid Iqbal, and Bharat Bhushan. Senior officials, including Commissioner Secretary GAD M. Raju, Secretary Hospitality & Protocol Bhupinder Kumar, Secretary Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Achal Sethi, and Secretary Legislative Assembly Manoj Kumar Pandita, were also present.
The Committee stressed the importance of ensuring due protocol and privileges to legislators, calling for greater cooperation to support the smooth functioning of the legislature.
Opening the discussions, Chairman Bhat highlighted the need for legislators to assert their constitutional rights and privileges on appropriate platforms. He assured that the Committee would continue to work within its mandate to protect the dignity of the institution and contribute to public welfare.
Members shared their suggestions, emphasizing the importance of upholding legislative protocols to safeguard the autonomy, dignity, and effective role of elected representatives.
The Committee resolved to prepare a comprehensive report on issues related to legislators’ privileges and protocols, which will be submitted to the concerned authorities for necessary action.
