CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police on Tuesday announced the dismantling of a Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module with the arrest of five suspects from Rajasthan.
According to police, one of the accused was injured during an exchange of fire while being taken for recovery. He allegedly opened fire at the police and was injured in retaliatory action. The suspect is undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the module had recently plotted an attack on a liquor store in SBS Nagar and had been assigned further strikes for Independence Day. Officers recovered a hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two empty shells from the accused.
“In a major breakthrough, Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, in coordination with SBS Nagar Police, has busted a BKI terror network run by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawashehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, acting under the directions of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Rinda,” Yadav posted on X.
The DGP said the arrested operatives were taking direct orders from Akhtar and Agwan, with the latter closely linked to Rinda. The arrests, made in Tonk and Jaipur districts, prevented further planned attacks.
A case has been registered at Nawanshahr police station in SBS Nagar, police confirmed.
