Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Wednesday announced the busting of a Pakistan-based narcotics and hawala network, arresting two key handlers involved in the “well-organised” operation.

Officials said the police recovered over 5 kg of heroin and more than ₹29 lakh in drug money during the operation.

“In a major breakthrough against cross-border drug smuggling, the CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) of Ferozepur Police has dismantled a Pakistan-based narco-hawala syndicate, recovering 5.150 kg of heroin and ₹29,16,700 in drug proceeds,” Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X.

He added that two prime handlers — Sajan, son of Ramesh, and Resham, son of Younis — with links to a notorious Pakistan-based smuggler, have been arrested.

According to the DGP, the duo was managing large-scale heroin consignments and hawala transactions across Ferozepur and nearby areas.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify the forward and backward links of the racket, Yadav said.
