Chandigarh: Ferozepur police have foiled a cross-border drug smuggling attempt, arresting one person and seizing over 15 kg of heroin, Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.
“In a swift, intelligence-driven operation, Ferozepur police apprehended Sonu Singh, a resident of Habibwala, Ferozepur, and recovered 15.775 kg of heroin from his possession,” DGP Yadav said in a post on X.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drug network is being run by an individual currently in Kapurthala Jail, while the consignment was reportedly sent by smugglers based in Pakistan, he added.
An FIR has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire network, including its upstream and downstream links.
