NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Governor and NDA candidate C P Radhakrishnan has been elected as the 15th Vice President of India, defeating Opposition nominee and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, while Reddy received 300, with indications of cross-voting in favour of the NDA candidate.
Rajya Sabha Secretary General and Returning Officer P C Mody announced the results, stating that 767 of the 781 MPs cast their votes, recording a turnout of 98.2 per cent. Of these, 752 ballots were valid and 15 were invalid, bringing the majority mark to 377.
“I declare C P Radhakrishnan elected as the Vice President of India. The result will be conveyed to the Election Commission,” Mody said.
