Rahul Gandhi Alleges Haryana Polls Were ‘Stolen’, Accuses EC of Collusion With BJP
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that last year’s Haryana Assembly elections were “stolen”, claiming that over 25 lakh entries in the state’s electoral rolls were “fake”. He accused the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP to secure its victory in the state.
Addressing a press conference at Indira Bhawan, Gandhi said he was questioning the Election Commission and the democratic process “with 100 per cent proof”. He alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two election commissioners “worked in partnership” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
According to Gandhi, a “centralised operation” called Operation Sarkar Chori was carried out to turn a “landslide Congress victory into a defeat” in Haryana. Citing electoral data, he claimed that 25,41,144 entries in the voter list were fake, including multiple and duplicate entries, invalid addresses, and “bulk voters.”
“Why is the Election Commission not removing duplicate entries? Because fair elections would expose the truth,” he said.
Gandhi also cited exit polls that predicted a Congress sweep in Haryana, noting that the results differed sharply from postal ballot trends. “In postal ballots, Congress got 73 seats and BJP 17. But the final results were the opposite,” he claimed.
Displaying a voter list image, Gandhi pointed out a woman’s photograph allegedly used 22 times across 10 booths in Rai constituency, adding that the image was originally from Brazil. “This proves it was a coordinated, centralised operation,” he said.
He further alleged that one in every eight voters in Haryana was fake, adding that despite this, Congress lost by narrow margins—“just 22,779 votes across eight seats.”
“I was in shock. I asked my team to verify this multiple times. Young people, Gen Z—your future is being stolen,” Gandhi said.
The Congress leader also played a video of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini predicting a BJP victory two days before counting, saying, “we have a system in place.” Gandhi said this indicated prior knowledge of the manipulation.
This isn’t the first time Gandhi has accused the Election Commission of bias. In September, he claimed the EC was shielding those “destroying democracy”, citing similar alleged irregularities in Karnataka’s Aland constituency. Earlier, in August, he had alleged that over one lakh votes were “stolen” in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura segment.
The Election Commission has dismissed such claims as “incorrect and baseless”, asserting that no votes can be deleted without due process.
In the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls, the BJP won 48 seats, Congress secured 37, the INLD got two, and three independents emerged victorious in the 90-member House.
