Siwan (Bihar) [India]: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he wins elections through vote theft, but asserted that “we won’t let them steal votes in Bihar.”
Speaking at the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Siwan, Gandhi said, “Modi wins elections through vote theft. We have to make it clear that in Bihar, we will not allow this. The Constitution of India grants one vote per person, not more. Voting is the right of the poor, the marginalized, Dalits, and minorities.”
The Congress leader underscored the importance of protecting the constitutional right to vote and vowed to defend the Constitution drafted by Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
“PM Modi, who is in cahoots with Ambani and Adani, will first take your vote, then your ration card, and then your land. ‘Vote chori’ (vote theft) is an attack on Ambedkar’s Constitution. We will not allow anyone to attack it,” Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, added.
He further promised that the Congress would continue exposing instances of alleged vote theft across the country.
“We have already exposed irregularities in Mahadevapura (Bengaluru). In the coming days, we will reveal similar cases across Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and other states—exposing the BJP and PM Modi’s alleged vote theft,” he said.
Gandhi reiterated that voting is a fundamental right for everyone, including the poor, backward classes, and Dalits. “People like Anil Ambani or Mukesh Ambani have the same voting rights as the poorest children of India. Voting belongs to the poor, the marginalized, and the Dalits,” he emphasized.
The 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar, led by Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, aims to raise awareness about alleged irregularities in the voter list, which opposition leaders have described as “vote chori.” Covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts, the yatra is scheduled to conclude in Patna on September 1.
Bihar Assembly elections are expected later this year, though the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet announced an official date.
While the NDA—comprising the BJP, JD(U), and LJP—seeks to retain power in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, aims to unseat Nitish Kumar.
In the current 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA holds 131 seats: BJP 80, JD(U) 45, HAM(S) 4, along with the support of 2 Independents.
