New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the Election Commission acted against “vote theft” only after he raised the issue, and pressed Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to share evidence with the Karnataka CID on the alleged deletion of votes in Aland.
Referring to reports of the EC introducing a new Aadhaar-based ‘e-sign’ system for addition or deletion of votes, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said, “Gyanesh ji, we caught the theft, only then did you remember to put a lock. Now we’ll catch the thieves too. So tell us, when will you hand over the evidence to the CID?”
Gandhi has previously claimed that attempts were made to cancel several votes in the Aland assembly segment using software, but the state CID intervened and stopped the alleged fraud after registering an FIR. He has also urged the CEC to share details to help the CID trace those responsible.
Election Commission officials, however, dismissed the charge, clarifying that the new verification system was not linked to the Aland controversy as suggested by Gandhi.
