Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will launch the ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ on Sunday to protest the alleged denial of people’s voting rights during the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, a senior party leader said.
At a press conference, former Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh said Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is expected to stay in the state for over two weeks, concluding the yatra with a rally in Patna on September 1.
“The yatra will begin from Sasaram tomorrow, and all required permissions have been secured. It aims to generate momentum for the INDIA bloc ahead of the assembly elections,” Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, said.
He added that the campaign will span 25 districts, with breaks on August 20, 25, and 31. At the Sasaram launch, Gandhi is expected to be joined by Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, along with other alliance partners, including three Left parties. Singh said efforts are being made to bring leaders of various like-minded parties to the concluding rally in Patna.
