NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday shared a video of himself attempting to make ‘imarti’ and ‘besan laddoo’ at the iconic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi. Extending Diwali greetings, he urged people to share how they were making the festival special.

Posting the clip on X, Gandhi said the true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the festive treats, but also in relationships and togetherness.

“Tried my hand at making imarti and besan laddoo at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote. “The sweetness of this centuries-old, iconic shop remains the same — pure, traditional, and heartwarming,” he added.

Encouraging others to share their celebrations, Gandhi asked, “Tell us, how are you celebrating your Diwali and making it special?”

In a separate post, he extended his wishes to the nation on the occasion of Diwali, saying, “May India be illuminated with the lamps of joy, and may the light of happiness, prosperity, and love spread in every home.”

The video also shows the shop owner reminiscing about serving Gandhi’s grandmother, father, and other family members, joking that they now await the opportunity to cater his wedding. Gandhi smiled at the remark before joining the staff in preparing the sweets.

He noted that the delicacies are made using traditional methods, appreciating the effort and skill involved in their preparation.
