JAMMU: The Northern Railway on Thursday carried out a special security drive at the Jammu railway station as part of heightened surveillance measures, officials said.
The intensified checks follow a high-intensity blast in a slow-moving car near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, which claimed 13 lives.
“Special security drives are routinely conducted at various stations in the Jammu division to ensure passenger safety,” said Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), dog squads, and officials from the commercial department. Railway premises, including platforms and surrounding areas, were thoroughly inspected, Singhal added.
Passenger luggage, platforms, and incoming and outgoing trains were screened using metal detectors and dog squads. Key areas such as waiting rooms, reservation counters, booking offices, and the parcel office also underwent detailed checks.
Passengers were briefed on security protocols during the drive. “The primary objective is to maintain smooth rail traffic without causing inconvenience to travellers,” Singhal said, adding that staff at the station have been instructed to remain extra vigilant.
He further urged passengers to stay alert, avoid touching suspicious objects, and immediately inform security personnel or contact railway helpline numbers 139 and 182.
