Jammu, Dec 03: The Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat has announced that the Raj Bhavan in Jammu and Kashmir has been renamed as Lok Bhavan. The order, signed by Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, states that the change is effective immediately.
The renaming follows a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, aimed at replacing colonial-era nomenclature associated with Governor and Lieutenant Governor residences across the country. Consequently, all references to Raj Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir will now be made as Lok Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the Lok Bhavan will continue to serve as the official residence and office of the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory. The move is part of a broader initiative to reflect people-centric governance and inclusive development.
Earlier, a similar change was made in Ladakh, where Raj Niwas was renamed Lok Niwas. Authorities described the renaming as a historic step, symbolizing a shift towards transparency and citizen-focused administration.
