Rajouri DC reviews functioning of Child Welfare Committee

RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a review meeting of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to assess the progress and initiatives undertaken during the last financial year.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, under which assistance was provided to 23 victims, ensuring timely support and rehabilitation.

The Committee also reported notable achievements in curbing child marriages, successfully preventing 29 cases, and rescuing and rehabilitating 17 children from child labour. Additionally, 13 cases involving runaway or kidnapped children were resolved, with the children safely reunited with their families.

Efforts towards placing eligible children in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) were highlighted, with 10 children successfully admitted into suitable care facilities.

Commending the Committee’s dedication, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma stressed the need for sustained efforts to safeguard children’s rights and welfare, while prioritizing their safety, education, and rehabilitation.

The meeting was attended by District Social Welfare Officer Abdul Raheem and members of the Child Welfare Committee.
