RAJOURI, Nov 29: The District Administration of Rajouri has ordered the immediate suspension of all Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the district for two months, citing public safety concerns and the potential misuse of such services for unlawful activities.

The directive, issued by District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, follows a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, highlighting unprecedented and suspicious use of VPN services in multiple areas of the district.

The order noted that VPNs, which can mask IP addresses, bypass website restrictions, and transmit encrypted data, were being exploited by certain internet users for activities that could threaten public order. These include spreading inflammatory content, coordinating actions prejudicial to law and order, and posing potential cybersecurity risks.

In the interest of maintaining law and order, the District Magistrate emphasized the need for preventive measures to safeguard sensitive information and ensure public safety. The Senior Superintendent of Police has been directed to enforce the order strictly and ensure full compliance across the district.
