New Delhi: Rasika Dugal and Arjun Mathur will be seen in the upcoming thriller Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, which is slated to release in theatres on October 10.
Directed by Anshuman Jha in his directorial debut, the film is produced by Golden Ratio Films and First Ray Films, and presented by Max Marketing Limited, according to a press release.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the film, Jha said, “During my younger days, my uncle and aunt would bring VHS tapes. I watched a few films, and Rope was the first one. There’s a similar trunk in that film, so the idea stayed with me. This film is a full-fledged thriller for audiences who rarely get to experience black comedies.”
He added, “When I think of black comedy thrillers in Indian cinema, films like Delhi Belly and Blackmail come to mind. My effort was to create a pure genre film, and I’m grateful to our five actors, including Zoha Rahman, for trusting the script. The workshopping with them was magical, and we discovered a lot during filming. Everything I learned while directing this film is something the audience will experience in cinemas this October.”
Written by Bikas Mishra, the film has been praised by its cast for its creative approach. Rasika Dugal said, “There’s nothing more exciting than being in a room with four brilliant actors and being given the freedom to explore, with some guidance. Anshuman did a fantastic job directing this film. Working with such talented actors is a treat you can’t refuse.”
Arjun Mathur admitted that he initially found the script puzzling but was drawn to its uniqueness. “I didn’t quite understand the script when I first read it. I said yes primarily because it was different, nuanced, and out of the ordinary. Performing in this film helped me understand it better,” he said.
Lord Curzon Ki Haveli had its world premiere in Melbourne and was the only Indian film featured at Europe’s largest genre film festival, Razor Reel Flanders, last year. Anshuman Jha also won the ‘Best Director’ award at the UK Asian Film Festival in London in 2024.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Paresh Pahuja, Zoha Rahman, and Tanmay Dhanania.
