Public urged to stay vigilant, report fake NMMS apps

SRINAGAR: The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, which oversees the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a warning regarding the circulation of unauthorized clone applications being misused in place of the official National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app in the Kashmir division.

Officials said these illegal apps are being sold for monetary gain and are allegedly used to generate fake attendance records for MGNREGA workers.

“Such practices undermine the integrity of MGNREGA and severely compromise the transparency and credibility of the system,” the Department stated.

In response, a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged with the Cyber Investigation Centre of Excellence (CICE) of the J&K Police Crime Branch against unidentified persons and phone numbers involved in promoting or using these fake apps.

Authorities emphasized that only the official NMMS application, provided by the Government of India, is authorized for recording attendance under MGNREGA. Use of any clone or unauthorized app may lead to strict legal action.

The Department also appealed to the public, especially MGNREGA stakeholders, to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.

“This step is part of our ongoing effort to ensure full transparency and accountability in the implementation of MGNREGA across Jammu and Kashmir,” officials added.
