Jammu: Around 1,200 houses have been damaged by heavy rains, landslides, and flash floods in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday. Relief operations are underway to assist affected families.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, said nearly 1,200 houses have suffered partial or complete damage. Over 500 families have already received financial aid under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), while efforts are on to cover the rest.
Supervising a relief camp at Ghatti, Sharma said machinery is being deployed to clear debris and help households begin restoration. Relief camps are being set up across subdivisions, alongside efforts to restore road, power, and water supply disrupted by the calamity.
The DC stressed that restoration of essential services, speedy disbursement of relief, and redressal of grievances are the administration’s top priorities. Families have been provided dry rations, blankets, mattresses, and tents to meet urgent needs.
Sharma assured locals that relief and rehabilitation support under SDRF norms would reach even the remotest areas. Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishavjeet Singh and revenue officials also interacted with affected families to address their concerns.
