KISHTWAR/JAMMU: Rescue and relief operations entered their third consecutive day on Saturday in a remote village of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, following a devastating incident that claimed 60 lives and left over 100 injured, officials reported.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, along with Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, visited the affected village late Friday night to assess the ongoing rescue efforts. The operation involves coordinated work by the police, army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), civil administration, and local volunteers navigating the challenging high-altitude terrain.
To date, 46 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families after completion of legal formalities. Meanwhile, 75 individuals have been reported missing, though locals and eyewitnesses suggest that hundreds may have been swept away by flash floods and buried under boulders, logs, and debris.
