Jammu: A revenue officer in Reasi district has been penalized with salary stoppage for remaining absent from duty during flood-like conditions, officials said on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik, took strong exception to the “negligence and dereliction of duty” by Naib Tehsildar J R Chakalhawalan, posted at Tehsil Thakrakote.
The DC noted that despite heavy rains, thunderstorms, landslides, and flash floods causing extensive damage across the district, the officer failed to remain present at his station and did not promptly report damages in his jurisdiction.
“The officer’s duty was to carry out timely damage assessment for relief disbursement. His absence led to unnecessary delays in the process,” Malik said.
A show-cause notice has been served to Chakalhawalan, directing him to explain within two days why disciplinary action should not follow.
Malik emphasized that field officers must remain physically present during natural calamities to ensure prompt relief and restoration measures.
