New Delhi: Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Friday shared a lighthearted video from the celebrations after India’s ICC Champions Trophy triumph earlier this year, featuring ODI captain Rohit Sharma joking about his retirement from the 50-over game.

India lifted the trophy in Dubai with a four-wicket win over New Zealand, securing their second consecutive ICC title after the T20 World Cup 2024 victory.

In the clip posted by Pant on Instagram, Rohit quipped, “Retirement lelu? Har baar jeetega toh mai thodi retirement leta rahunga” (Retirement? I’m not going to retire every time I win). The “Hitman” had announced his retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup win in June. He starred in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, scoring 76 off 83 balls with seven fours and three sixes, earning the Player of the Match award.

Sharing the video, Pant also marked the country’s 79th Independence Day with a heartfelt note: “Happy Independence Day, India. Some moments stay with you forever, and winning for India is at the top of the list. Proud to be Indian.”

Test captain Shubman Gill too extended Independence Day wishes, saying, “The biggest dream, the greatest privilege – playing for India. Happy Independence Day.”

Gill was recently named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025 after a stellar Test series against England, where he amassed 754 runs at an average of 75.40, including four centuries. This was his fourth such honour, following wins in February 2025, January 2023, and September 2023.
